I serve students 24 students with intellectual disabilities and autism. My amazing students come from very tough socio-economic situations but come to school everyday willing to learn. They have changed from a disconnected group last year to a wonderful community of learners who support each other in every aspect of school. Many read on the 2-3rd grade level with a few 4th but they push forward continuing to learn and gain skills that will support them after school. We have started a dog treat fundraiser to buy uniforms for our gold winning Special Olympic teams. I just learned that the grant for our garden project was just approved so my student will grow, harvest and prepare their own fresh fruits and vegtables by late fall! I am lucky I have been chosen to teach this awesome group of students. What a gift. Please give to my students so that they may give back to their community as productive adults.Reading is key!
