Hello! Imagine a K-5 elementary school library media center. What do you envision? I usually see a cozy room filled with the latest books, cool displays, leisure reading areas, quiet lighting, inspiring artwork, and fun technology. I usually hear quiet music in the background and the sound of happy students searching (quietly) for books or reading together (quietly). This is what I wish for my media center. What I recently walked into is quite the opposite: a drab room, many years worth of tattered old books, broken equipment, dust, "new" books from 1992, no magazines, and no leisure reading areas. Obviously, my little media center's needs run deep. As a new Media Specialist, I hope to start the school year with an equally new media center that children look forward to visiting, learning and exploring. I appreciate any assistance or suggestions for making my little diamond-in-the-rough a very special place!
