My class has been engaged in a read aloud called "The One and Only Ivan." I have a huge stuffed gorilla in my class, which provides an unexpected visual. My students will use the copy of the book to follow along during a read along portion of the day. I want kids to realize that reading just 15 minutes a day can result in a book read from start to finish in just a couple of weeks. Many students don't read at home on a regular basis, and I want to change that way of thinking. I want students to show their parents that it is cool to read, and share the stories they learn. I know I will continue to use this book in the future. I am hoping to have a classroom set for years to come. I know my students will never forget this story. I would love to ensure they have a piece of this classic forever.
