My Kindergarten students generally have young, inexperienced parents and young siblings. My students' parents work hard to provide the best they can for their children; many are fighting to break the cycle of poverty. Many of these parents feel insecure about helping their students with homework. I often hear that after coming home from a long day, they want to play and enjoy time with their kiddos, not have to work on homework. One big thing going for these families is love, desire to enjoy life together and high hopes for their children! This project will help young parents learn how to help their child with academics while strengthening loving bonds and creating fun memories! The Lakeshore Family Engagement Language Arts and Math Packs will be an essential part of our weekly take-home bags. Along with the engaging educational games, books will be added for parents to read to all of their children and emergent readers for the students to practice reading to their families. Students will also learn responsibility through this project. They will check out a bag each week, and be responsible for returning all of the items in the bag after enjoying the activities!
