The elementary students at my school are growing musically! This September, I will begin my 4th year at my school which is a Title I school. I have realized that I will need to tweak my curriculum and make it more difficult because they have already become amazing musicians in their primary years. My 500+ students come from various backgrounds and have all had very different learning and living experiences. For many of my students, elementary school is the only time they will have music in school and/or play an instrument. Every September, I begin by asking my students what they want to learn...they always tell me they want to play "real instruments" like pianos, violins and guitars. We do not have these instruments in elementary school - band does not begin until the 6th grade in the middle school. I would love to help make their dreams come true and teach them the piano throughout their 5th grade year.
