In my classroom, I utilize interactive science notebooks. These are an incredibly valuable tool for my 9th and 10th graders. I started using them last year after I realized the lack of organizational skills in my students. Binders did not work for me, because students were constantly loosing papers and things were falling out. Interactive notebooking is an excellent method to help them organize, visualize, and interact with the material they are learning. We incorporate foldables, drawings, doodle notes, Cornell notes, color, concept mapping, labs, and activities all in the notebook. Together, we organize, maintain, and keep up with the notebook every single day. By the end of the year, the students are incredibly proud of their notebooks and can visually see all of the hard work they accomplished throughout the year. In order to create the notebooks, my students will need basic materials such as tape, glue sticks, highlighters, and colored paper. I would love a document camera so that I can show students how to setup their notebook and how to create various foldables. The document camera will make instruction for our Interactive Notebooks much easier, especially for my visual learners.
