Lessons learned in block play are fundamental to a child's growth and development. This activity will be built into our daily routine. Both unstructured and structured block play can provide fun challenges and encourage cooperative projects. Building with LEGOs and blocks assists in problem-solving, develops fine and gross motor skills, fosters imagination, and helps with social skills. Both blocks and LEGOs provide opportunities for Kindergarten students to be introduced at an early age to STEAM activities. Block play can also be connected with reading; after a read aloud, students can use the blocks and accessories to recreate settings from the story and can provide ideas of what to build. LEGOs are great for hands-on math activities including sorting, counting, and adding.
