My 3rd grade classroom is full of 8 and 9 year olds who love learning. I teach reading and writing, and we learn new concepts in fun and innovative ways. My students spend a lot of time collaborating with one another to complete tasks. We participate in books clubs and rely on teamwork to complete research assignments due to having to share technology resources. Throughout the week we dig into our spelling pattern of the week, define vocabulary using context clues, use various comprehension strategies to tackle grade level texts, and we use the writing process to write narrative, informational, and opinion pieces. All of the things we do require collaborating with our peers. Not only do we learn the 3rd grade standards, but we also learn what it means to be a good teammate, partner, and friend all in a setting that mimics spending the day at the beach.
