"We are musicians: Independent, Collaborative, Creative, and Thoughtful." This is our class mission statement. Music is an essential human expression and my job is to make sure that every student finds his/her voice. To the casual observer, music class may just look like "fun" but hidden in each game or song are valuable lessons to develop essential musical skills and realize our mission statement. We sing in many tonalities and meters. We improvise and compose. We learn about the music of the past and how it is connects to the music of today. We explore world cultures and in doing so honor differences while identifying what makes us all the same. We find connections and problem-solve! We learn to work with others and perform as a musical team. We learn to think deeply and become self-aware. At Heritage Elementary, We Are Musicians!
