I have an inclusion, third grade classroom. I have 8 students with IEP's and 4 students that are in the RTI process. This group of students is most successful with hands-on tasks. They love to be read to and are great story tellers. Guided math allows the my students to investigate how numbers and operations work and why math is vital in their everyday lives. My children are enthusiastic learners and are a very "busy" group. My students lack the stamina required to sit still for an extended amount of time. Although we work in teams and move about a lot, state testing requires that students sit and focus for extended time. Our school is a Title 1 school and most of my students are from military families. Administration supports new and innovative ideas and as a staff we are encouraged to "think outside of the box." We are not a textbook based school. Common Core drives our instruction.
