One thing we all know about firsties is that they get the wiggles! Flexible seating would allow my students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, channeling all their extra energy during the school day. All this wiggling increases oxygen flow to the brain and helps with core strength allowing them to better focus on their work! Flexible seating would also empower my students with the freedom to choose where and how they work. These items will allow for additional seating so my students can choose to work in the most effective learning environment, whether that is wiggling their way through a math problem on the wobble stools, or sprawled out on the floor reading a book with a friend. These seating choices can also allow for my students engage in real life problem solving as they navigate taking turns, and sharing. These skills are something that everyone needs from first grade all the way into adulthood. I have seen how flexible seating can allow children to take control of their own learning and want to allow my students the opportunity to learn in a space that supports each of their individual needs!
