Did you know students coming from low-income households hear roughly 30 million fewer words than their more affluent peers? Having a document camera and leveled readers will help bridge the achievement gap by giving my English Learner kindergartners more opportunities to see, hear, and develop language. A document camera is a great tool to show beginning learners how to form letters/words. It is also great for a whole group reading by giving them an opportunity to understand concepts about print. Leveled readers will give my students more opportunities to practice sight words, phonics, and develop reading skills in the classroom and at home. Please help give them these tools needed to succeed.
