Given these unprecedented times, my students will need iPads to participate in speech therapy lessons that are both remote and in-person models for the upcoming year. Many of my students use iPads with different communication apps to communicate. Using iPads and other AAC is a fundamental human right that these students need access to at all times. However, oftentimes devices are broken, forgotten, or confusing to use for students and families. One of the biggest challenges faced in remote learning is being able to troubleshoot devices, consult with families, and teach students how to use communication apps and iPads from afar. My students could use Ipads to engage in multisensory, interactive lessons both online and in-person that they can benefit from and enjoy! The donation of an iPad would provide more opportunities for my students to communicate. If provided with iPads, I plan to purchase communication apps including GO-TALK NOW, Proloquo2go, Touch Chat, and LAMP-WORDS for life; all apps that my students are familiar with and use on their personal communication devices. These apps range in price from $100-$300.00 each. This will allow me to trial the apps to find an appropriate app that best suits students who need devices to communicate. Information from app trials can be used to provide data to outside evaluators and insurance companies to help students qualify for funding and receive their own devices. If a student loses, breaks, or does not qualify for their own Ipad, the Ipads I receive can be given out as loaners for the children. Additionally, Ipads and accompanying apps can be screen mirrored and presented on computer screens to be used during remote therapy sessions in which I cannot be in direct physical contact with my students. Other apps for articulation, language, and fluency can be used as well!
