My students are first and second graders with emotional disturbances that live in the Bronx. They currently attend a Day Treatment school due to their behaviors which limit their ability to function in a typical classroom. The building that the school resides in receives limited funds and resources. The library is currently outdated with most of the books being printed in the 1970's. These students come from unstable households and have often been in the hospital due to their mental health, all of my students qualify for free lunch. School is the place that these students are the most safe and consistently cared for. My students should have access to updated reading materials in order to reach their fullest potential.
