Our second grade room is full of movement and comfort! From sitting on the floor on a shaggy rug, a mini table with bucket seats or up on the counter with extra large pillows. Our lessons are hands on with Interactive Read Alouds, Smart Board Activities, and more. Second grade is the last year of primary where developing reading skills and reading comprehension skills are essential. We use the Daily 5 structure where students have the opportunity to visit different rotations while others are in small group guided reading. The rotations are Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Listen to Reading and Work on Writing. We also use computer programs such as iReady, AR, and Spelling City to help improve our reading skills. The goal is to gain tablets for our classroom to give students the extra opportunity to improve their phonics/comprehension skills with different games and activities.
