Listening to fluent readers is an important tool to increase fluency in all students. In my classroom, this is incredibly important as a large number of students are learning English as their second language. The materials requested will help all students listen to multiple books per week. While I have an extensive fiction library, it is currently made up of outdated cassette tapes. With the converter, I will be able to finally use this selection of rich literature. With the ability to record myself reading books in mp3 format, students will learn from many new non-fiction books included here that align with our curriculum, while also exercising their imagination with my current selection of excellent fiction books. Individual mp3 players for each student will allow students to listen to multiple titles a week independently and without distraction. This is incredibly important when considering listening centers to ensure students are able to hear the story easily and able to focus for maximum comprehension. No doubt my students and their reading will grow leaps and bounds with consistent access to a full listening center and quality texts.
