My 2nd graders are a diverse and multicultural group of learners attending a Title I, poverty-impacted school. They are in desperate need of reading support. Due to lack of early childhood education (no preschool or early reading supports at home due to language barriers and lack of resources) many of my students come to me this year reading at least one or two years below grade level. But, they are enthusiastic and eager learners who, with a little inspiration, motivation, and support, are highly capable students who can far exceed their wildest expectations. However, my students' learning experiences are often hindered by limited and/or low-quality resources. When provided with quality resources that inspire and make our classroom a visually stimulating and physically comfortable and fun space, these students find renewed strength, pride, and energy to push themselves to be the best learners they can be.
