Our classroom is in desperate need of a carpet for the front of our room! We will use it everyday for our restorative circles and when we have read-alouds. It will also be used during centers time for the students who are expected to read independently. Our school uses a restorative justice framework to create a positive culture among our students. Every morning, we meet with our students to welcome them to the day, meditate to refocus our minds for success, check-in with how everyone is feeling, and discuss topics that relate to our classroom community. It is an opportunity for us to solve issues that we have been facing, focus on our emotions, and build rapport. Having a carpet will allow us to be more comfortable during circle time and will increase the amount of time we have since we will not have to set up our chairs in a circle anymore. Our carpet will also be used for read-alouds and independent reading time. Allowing the students to sit on the floor during read-alouds will make it easier for them to see the pictures in our books. It will also make pacing the story easier since I will no longer have to walk around the room to ensure all the students have seen each picture. Students will also get to choose to sit or lie down on the carpet for the independent reading center. Thank you for helping us!
