My school is a Title 1 school where over 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. All students are provided a well rounded breakfast in the classroom before the academic day begins. Most students come from environments where parents are in survival mode. My students are awesome kids with big hearts. For example, students in my classroom earn classroom money each month for performing their various jobs and getting good marks on their tests. At the end of the month we have a class auction and students are allowed to bid for items at the auction after they pay their rent. My students have gathered their money together to help a student who didn't have enough money to buy an auction item simply because they understand that students needs were different than theirs and fair isn't always equal. This student was struggling with some outside circumstances and the kids were well aware of it. My school has challenging obstacles but great kids.
