Flexible seating is most important to me as I begin my first year of teaching a class of 17 grade one students. The classroom tiles, bean bags, clipboards, and writing materials I am hoping for will allow my students the opportunity to work in a variety of locations throughout my classroom. Giving my students alternative seating options during literacy will give them their own space to learn in a way that is best for them. Additionally, this will make teacher check-ins more useful. The classroom tiles will be dual purpose - used for a group reading area when put together, as well as separately for students to use around the classroom. Students also enjoy the autonomy of choosing their own seats during reading time. Reading outside of a desk and chair can help students to foster a love for reading. I am so excited for my first year and to provide my students with every opportunity I can.
