Many of my students are new to the public education system. They receive ESL services every day, and continue to learn the language at a rapid pace. Currently, there is no cap as to how many ESL students can be placed into one classroom. This can make it extremely difficult for teachers to adapt lessons to the specific needs of children. I would like to integrate more centers into my classroom. These iPads will keep them engaged and will help them with the four main parts of an ESL curriculum: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. With you generous donation, time will never be lost in the classroom and students will stay engaged to promote a positive, stress-free, literary classroom. Many of my students are not at the independent level, and need activities that can be read to them and explained to them, sometimes in their own language. Apps and programs, such as Rosetta Stone, Reading Eggs, Reading A-Z, Headsprout, Learning Chocolate, and many other educational resources, are just a few examples of what these students can use on these iPads. Translators can be used as communication guides for my newcomer students and will help with social interaction and will make transitions easier. Students who are higher ESL children can use these iPads to practice phonics skills, comprehension skills, and literacy skills. The best way to teach children is in small group settings. My hope is that these tablets will help with independent time and will keep students engaged in learning while also being used as communication tools, and active review supplements.
