I teach fantastic first graders at a Title 1 school. This year I have students who have been identified with disabilities that directly impact their learning. I have 6 students who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I have 6 students who have speech and language concerns. I have 4 students who have learning disabilities, and 1 student that is Autistic. First grade is a crucial year in school. At this age, it is important to have our children start their lifelong love of reading and learning. It helps to set the tone for the rest of their school years. I believe learning should be exciting and flexible. The material should be presented in different ways to help each child's learning style. I think the teaching process should be flexible and allow each child to shine. Most importantly, the students should know that you care, and want them to be successful.
