How will arts education help students develop the skills and attitudes they need to flourish in the 21st century? Art students must develop their imagination to a high degree and communicate their ideas through their creativity. Through the study of art, students learn about themselves, their community and world cultures while solving problems and overcoming challenges, working both independently and collaboratively. In this process they become problem solvers, thoughtful doers, and individuals who have developed a sense of tolerance and an understanding of diversity for the world they live in. I use art as a means to help students learn about themselves and about the many cultures of the world. We work both inside the classroom, and by going out and directly interacting with others addressing real world issues with artistic training.
