A variety of fiction and informational texts will support students by providing them hands-on materials to practice reading and writing skills. The books that I have chosen offer my students to hear stories of a variety of diverse characters and multitude of challenges and events. Our classroom library is a resource for students to utilize in a multitude of ways. I will use texts from my library for read-alouds and lessons in both reading and writing. This allows students to learn from an actual published author and gives them a goal to strive toward in their own work. Students will also "book shop" from our classroom library to practice reading and writing skills independently. I want students to have a range of books they can choose from and relate to that offers a range of topics and interests that excite them to read. It is so important for me to have a classroom library that not only aligns to and supports the skills students will be expected to master, but also exemplifies the experiences and diversity of students and families we have in our classroom. I believe that every student should have the opportunity to love reading and chance to connect with the artistry of literature.
