My students are learning science by doing numerous hands on activities. Currently, my students are participating in an aquaponics project through University of Nebraska-Kearney. Through this project, students are raising tilapia in the aquarium and growing tomatoes and basil in the above planter. My students' interest in nature has increased and I want to continue to involve my students in hands-on science that connect them to nature. Students will have a connection with the environment through hands-on activities - as a result, students will care about their environment. Students will raise trout from eggs to fingerlings, monitor tank water quality, learn to appreciate water resources, foster a conservation ethic, and grow an understanding of ecosystems. As a result, students will make connections to science outside of the classroom. Finally, every May, students will participate in the release of the trout into a Nebraska State Park Lake.
