Part of the National Music Standards states that students should be able to play an instrument independently and as a group. What better instrument to learn how to read music and perform than a xylophone? A xylophone is a great lead in for all percussion instruments as well as piano and other melodic instruments. It combines reading music and fine motor skills which can help foster a child's development. Playing instruments as a part of an ensemble helps to create a sense of environment in which all students play a very important role in creating a product or project. We will use these wonderful instruments to not only create ensemble music but also for children to play solo. They will be able to read, compose, and create their own music as well as use already prepared music. These instruments will also be used with all grade levels at our school, K-5.
