Our Visual Art classes has had BIG hopes and dreams to have students glaze ceramic bisque tiles to go under the courtyard windows in our hallways. There are four areas around the school that need a little love. For this project, we will need bisque tiles (I am not sure how many yet!), glaze, grout, and tools and later, all hands on deck to help apply the finished tiles. Anwatin in Ojibwe means Calm Weather. Throughout the school year, students in Visual Art investigate how "Art can Change the World." Students learn about the impact artists can have on their communities, neighborhoods, the environment and social justice movements. "Calm -Weather Tiling, Co." (Anwatin's own students in Art) are making a plan to glaze bisque tiles. The tiles then get fired in the kiln (a big hot ceramic oven!) and come out looking super shiny, professional, and way happier than the icky grey area we plan to cover! Students love to see their work on display, and this is one way to show them how they can use art to problem-solve, make a positive change in the world we live in and encounter. It really takes a village. Thank you for considering the support to make these dreams come true!
