My classroom is made up of diverse ethnicity, low socioeconomic, and is across the spectrum in academics. I work in a Title 1 school, district and campus, which means that over 70% of the population in the district are living in low-income earning families. My school specifically has 72% of our population living in a low-income earning household. My school is in the process of becoming an AVID campus. AVID stands for: Advancement Via Individual Determination which is a non-profit organization that provides professional learning for educators to improve college/work force readiness for all students, especially those traditionally underrepresented in higher education. My classroom is a room that starts out as individuals, but leaves as a family. We learn to work collaboratively, we utilize our time to be critical thinkers and yet creative at the same time, and we also strive to grow as humans and learners.
