I am very lucky to have an office to myself this year and am planning to create a "calm down corner" for students to access when they need somewhere to regulate their emotions or sensory needs. Unfortunately, our budgets are very limited in schools, and my personal budget is stretched. I'd love some help in making this critical space a reality for my students. I'm hoping to put up some room dividers, with a fluffy rug, bean bag chair, books, sensory tools (weighted blanket, water lava timer, squeeze toys), a lap desk with meditative coloring books/activities, and a time timer. With these tools, students can take a short break from what is overwhelming them and learn positive strategies for coping with dysregulation. This can prevent outbursts that disrupt their learning, the classroom environment, and their relationships with teachers and friends. This space can help students that have experienced trauma to feel safe at school. It will also help students with autism or emotional impairments learn positive strategies for calming down. Thank you for considering this project!
