Our small, coastal school has a family-like atmosphere with small classes and only one room per grade. While we are sounded by a wealth of natural assets including ready access to the shore and our nature trail, and have abundant volunteer help, we are not so blessed with our budget. While my students can lack traditional readiness skills, they are prepared to learn. Their learning, however, must be connected to their world. It must be hands-on. It must be real. When presented with projects that meet these parameters, however, my students not only learn, but often excel!
