Technology is an ever-present part of our lives and it is a tool that is used in virtually every industry. Having access to even a few tablet computers in my science classroom would be greatly beneficial to my students, but our school does not have the resources to sustain one-to-one technology for student use. Utilizing tablets in the science classroom will allow my students to research a variety of science topics and utilize online simulations to further their learning. By leveraging online science resources such as Khan Academy and PhET, I will be better equipped to help students who are struggling to reach academic standards and students who are not challenged, to reach their full potential. This will help to ensure that the students of my school get the most of their science education. Tablet computers will also allow my students to conduct scientific research on topics such as science history, STEM careers, and many other aspects of the science curriculum. While three tablets will get the students started and allow me to increase classroom engagement, I am working towards obtaining enough for a classroom set. That way, each student in the science class would be able to use a tablet at the same time. This gives each of the students the opportunity for individualized instruction instead of a select few.
