My students come from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds. They are brave, funny, resilient, and extremely energetic. Geographically, we are located in one of the most integral settings in the Civil Rights Movement in this country, in which my students have developed a high interest for. Having reading materials that accommodate their many exceptionalities allows my students to access relatable content that would not otherwise be accessible. Because many of my students struggle with disorders that affect self-control and anger-management, the collection that covers emotion can develop literacy as well as teach them coping skills. Many of my students are well below grade level in reading fluency and comprehension, and need supports such as audio Cd's to access grade level content and develop their personal reading goals.
