If you look at our school's statistics, you will see that we are struggling with below average state test scores. You would also see that 97% of our students are Hispanic and are either English Language Learners or former ELLs. You might also see that most of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. But this would not give you the full picture of who we are. We are a tiny middle school of 250 students. Our focus is on the fine arts and you would know this by walking through our building and admiring all our murals and fine artwork on display. We also have a dance program which is a big draw for many of our students who decide to enroll here. Most importantly, our school is full of bright, earnest students who are eager to do well and be successful in this world. Since English is not their first language, more than anyone else, they truly need exciting books to read that are on their level. As a teacher, I need to do everything possible to put those books in their hands.
