I teach K-2nd Title 1. This means that my students are struggling to read. I currently have 50 students that come to my room for reading support. My kindergarten students entered school knowing no letters or sounds. My first graders started this school year unable to recognize sight words in a text. My second graders were well below average and had little self esteem in reading. My students are pulled out of their regular education classroom for 45-60 min to work with me in small group. We work on letters, sounds, phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension and to build their confidence. It is my job to give my students the skills to be good readers, but also the confidence that they can do it! My school is 70% low income. The majority of the student population is African-American, receives free or reduced lunch, and are from single parent homes. My students are technologically deprived
