The books I have chosen are all in a fourth to fifth-grade reading Lexile level. Many of our students do not have books at home, and most of their accounts have fines, so they may not check out any from the media center. The selected literature is engaging, holds academic vocabulary, and is long enough to build momentum in their reading. The books are also relatable, with lots of problem and solution text features. With those, I included books that students have probably heard other students talk about or might have watched on TV, yet can not afford to buy one to read at home.
