My 6th grade students range in ages from 11-12 and are currently learning using the hybrid model (two days at school and 3 days working remotely). I have Cohort A on Monday/Tuesday and Cohort B on Thursday/Friday. Most of my students and their families come from many socio-economic backgrounds as well as having various academic abilities. In this unprecedented time, and with unemployment rates being at their highest in years, parents cannot afford to purchase laptops or tablets for their students. This is a huge issue, as they are only learning in the classroom twice a week. This does not allow the opportunities needed to teach my students the requirements of their 6th grade standards since they are unable to work remotely. The 2020 school year is going to be my biggest adventure yet!! Our students are learning by using technology now, more than ever. To help my students remain engaged in the classroom as well as being able to work from home, having additional technology will provide an interactive experience within the classroom without the need to leave our seats while complying with social distancing guidelines. They will be able to take the device home so that they can participate in any necessary class meeting as well as getting their assignments completed online.
