As a new teacher, I am focused on creating small group reading instruction that will allow me to grow my students’ literacy. 5th grade is an integral year in students’ reading growth because of their transition to Middle School and their changes in life. I have thoroughly enjoyed the F&P progress monitoring and, I think, with extra books and paired reading instruction, students will remain interested, engaged, and continuously wanting to explore their understanding of reading. I plan on using these books for that and to allow students to take these books home to read them. For me, any reading is good reading and if my students benefit from keeping a book, I will gladly give it to them. I fell in love with The Phantom Tollbooth when I was in elementary school, and ever since then, I have wanted to continue Norton Juster’s love of and care for learning. This would be an amazing personal and professional goal for me to achieve which, I believe, can be through guided reading and extending the love of reading and learning.
