My sixth grade ELA students are at that "tween" age of beginning to forge their own independent identities. Unfortunately, for many of them, part of that identity is "non-reader." When I asked them to share six positive reading experiences with me, every single student could list a book from toddler-hood, but fewer than ten percent listed one they had read in the past six months.
