I have a total of 40 students I teach daily nearly all receive free lunch services. I am the only Reading and Writing teacher for 2nd grade as we are a very small school in an extremely rural area. While this is my 1st year at Duson Elementary, I very quickly learned what a close-knit community school I am blessed to work in. While many of my students are the poorest I've ever taught, they are also some of the most grateful and well-behaved as well. They tend to come from working families, though many still struggle to make ends meet. My students have many things that are different about them, but they all share the desire to learn. They are eager to learn all they can and I am eager to enrich their lives with a love of learning. Changing the cycle of poverty begins with high expectations and my goal is to help shape them into well-rounded little people that are prepared for the next chapter in their story.
