I am a second year Kindergarten teacher. My position was added so I did not take over for another teacher, therefor I am starting from scratch! Our class library is lacking in many ways. First and foremost, we are lacking in diverse books. I want ALL of my students to be able to see themselves on the pages of the books we share in class. I want them to feel included in every aspect of our classroom as I continuously refer to us as a class family. I am requesting diverse books that help my students see themselves in our class library! I’m also looking to use more nonfiction books like the Gail Gibbons and Brad Metzer texts to bolster our lessons on history and science. These books are filled with information but the illustrations make it more “engaging” for young scholars. I used these books last year but had to get them from my local library. I would love to have them in our class library so students can explore them on their own even after we have read them as a whole class!
