Each day in our classroom brings on new information, new challenges and new inspiring moments. We spend our entire afternoon participating in balanced literacy. This time in our school day involves reading, writing, and word work. As we continue to push ourselves to become better readers and writers, it is important to realize that though we all have different abilities, we are in this together. A large carpet in our room would offer a comfortable and inviting space to gather as a group. We will meet at the carpet and bring our writing binders to begin our work as authors. I will present mini-lessons to the students and get them started on their writing journey of the day. Having an area to gather allows me to informally assess student progress and quickly assist students that needs support to continue. This large carpet will also be used to meet in with book club groups. Students will meet and discuss a book they are all reading. They will dig deep into character development, plot, theme and author's purpose. The carpet will provide comfort and warmth to make our classroom feel even more safe and inviting.
