I have an amazing group of 2nd graders. My collaborative class has learners of all levels but most of them struggle in reading. Many of my students have not been exposed to engaging text and, therefore, they are bored and think reading is a chore! They have been so used to being behind that they have almost become complacent... and in my class, that WILL NOT FLY! A child armed with a book has all the potential for greatness in the world! They go to school in a rural/suburban area with a high level of poverty. Many students do not have their own books and borrow from my library weekly. They are ready to soar. They are ready to become our future!
