With the start up of a new Preschool For All (PFA) program at my school we are lacking some of the necessities to get the program up and running quickly. As the school social worker, it is my responsibility and privilege to guide our preschoolers in learning about social, emotional, mindfulness, and being responsible individuals. Because this is the first time a majority of my kids are in a group setting/away from home, we need to practice our friendship skills. We need books of all varieties, but especially ones that highlight social skills. These books will be used for highlighted social skill of the week, circle/story time, individual reading, and small groups. Picture books, stories, and visuals are the best way for these skills to be explained to my 3-5 year olds. In addition to these lovely books, my students learn through visuals. Our preschool program is also a blended program which means that we have students with special needs, specialized instruction, and individualized education plans (IEP). All of these students benefit and learn from visuals. In order to preserve these visuals and to keep them sturdy, the laminator and laminator pouches are necessary for the PFA program. The first thing I would like to make with the laminate are visual cue cards the staff can wear to help non-verbally remind students of expected behavior and/or give silent praise to. Being able to reuse visuals is both time and cost effective for us teachers.
