The 2nd grade students are a diverse group. 61% of the children receive some form of accommodation - academically, socially or behaviorally. They are enthusiastic and active learners. While I can provide many opportunities to discuss problems and collaborate in class, they need to be able to explore and make their own connections to prior experiences. In that many come from a lower socioeconomic group (50% are free/reduced lunch) they don't have access to materials that extend their reasoning, designing and problem solving skills. Hence, this project is being proposed. Allowing students to connect their prior experience building with LEGOS and the collaborative work we do daily, children will be able to add the next components of assembling and programming working robots with partners. The children will have access to technology, not just paper and pencil activities, while growing socially.
