On a daily basis, my students use our reading nook to provide themselves with many texts on their reading level. Adding magazines to their options will increase their curiosity and motivation to read! We are requesting class subscriptions to TIME for Kids and Scholastic News magazines. Magazines, in particular, are a way of giving students authentic texts with high interest levels. I think it's so important to make sure that the kids love to read at this age so why not provide them with texts that they will love to read and return to over and over again? By stocking our classroom library with magazines, I am giving my students the ability to choose topics that they love for themselves. Even though students have many resources available to them online, it's still important for them to have the print resources available as well. I love the idea of having a go-to magazine library for our classroom that will attract all reading levels.
