I am blessed to work with an amazing group of students who are faced with a number of challenges early in their lives. Our school is located in a very urban and very poverty stricken neighborhood. My kids often struggle with staying in the same home or with the same adults for very long, and always need additional love, consistency and support here at school. I hope to give them the opportunity to communicate and stand up for themselves by supporting their speech and language skills and providing them with communication boards and devices. All too often students in this neighborhood are ignored or overlooked outside of school- this is even more the case for my children who are speech and language impaired and struggle to communicate under the best circumstances. My goal is to empower my students to be confident and functional communicators so that they can advocate for themselves, ask for help when they need it, make friends and hopefully someday hold a job.
