By providing my students with opportunities to participate in labs that require the use of liquid materials, they will increase their scientist-like skills. A major precursor to these types of labs requires measuring materials, such as beakers and graduated cylinders. While the initial cost may be high, this material will be used over and over. The implementation of the NGSS standards calls for students to engage in doing science. Brain research also supports this idea that students learn by doing. Therefore, it is important to have basic lab equipment in out classrooms that allow for the development, design, and execution of labs.
