Whether I teach remotely in the fall or we're in the classroom, I will use these books to read aloud to my students, with essential questions to guide our discussions about culture and diversity. These read-aloud lessons will also include an emphasis on learning new vocabulary, practicing critical thinking, reasoning, and listening and speaking skills. Even though my students may be learning remotely, I want to provide them with a variety of engaging multicultural picture books where they can practice essential first-grade skills while supporting their social and emotional learning and broadening their understanding of themselves and the diversity in the world around them.
