Imagine being knee deep into your favorite novel - you're captivated by the words on the page that jump to life and your mind's eye is caught up in the imagery of the heart pacing scene. The anticipation irresistibly invites you to visualize the scene, connect with the characters, and predict what may come next. Mentor texts are quality children's literature that guide and model a variety of skill set for little learners. These texts are used as stellar examples of books that not only guide students to practice critical thinking and comprehension but also serve as a models for quality writing. Reading and writing skills are best taught and learned through mentor texts we can revisit often to practice deepening our comprehension (predict, visualize, connect, infer, etc.) and model our writing after.
