I believe, and it has been shown in studies that English Language Learners, especially young ones, need to be able to touch objects to more quickly learn vocabulary. The students will use the store, wallet, cash register and fruit basket, by starting out with a certain amount of fake money provided by the class, and then by buying grocery goods as they learn the names of the objects, the letters each object starts with, and the sounds (phonemes) and spelling of the items in the store. This gives them the opportunity to not only have a real experience shopping, but to have a literacy lesson. I chose soft items so children can feel comfortable and at home. Thank you for helping us get started in our new real-world, literacy experience in class.
